Introducing you to the country’s three main regions, this 11-day journey starts with the natural splendor and majesty of the north, continues to the historic charm of the central provinces before concluding with the beauty and the vibrancy of the south.

Day 1

Hanoi Arrival

2_on_bikesUpon arrival Hanoi, you will be welcomed by your guide and transferred to your hotel. Rest of the day is at your leisure.

Day 2

Hanoi (B)

Today, visit the most famous landmarks of Hanoi, including Ho Chi Minh mausoleum, One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature, West Lake’s Tran Quoc temple, Quan Thanh pagoda, the Ethnology Museum, the bustling Old Quarter and finally enjoy in the evening a water puppet performance.

Day 3

Hanoi – Hoa Lu – Hanoi (B,L)

Have a day-trip through rural northern Vietnam. Visit country’s first capital Hoa Lu, then depart for Tam Coc Town for a Vietnamese lunch. Later, have a sampan boat cruise amongst enormous limestone karsts that give to this area its famous nickname of “Halong on Land”.

Day 4

Hanoi – Halong Bay  (B, L, D)

Drive from Hanoi to Halon and discover the incredible scenery of Halong Bay for an overnight boat cruise. Spend your time relaxing on board, or enjoy some visits and/or activities. Anchor on the bay for the night and admire an incredible sunset in this unique natural landscape.

Day 5

Halong Bay – Noi Bai Aiport – Danang – Hoi An (B)

After sunrise and breakfast aboard, disembark and transfer for your onward flight to Danang. From there, have a short drive to Hoi An, a major Asian trading port in the 17th and 18th century.

Day 6

Hoi An – My Son – Hoi An (B)

Take a half day tour to visit My Son, the capital and religious center of the former Cham Kingdom. On the way back, explore the Lion Citadel, before having a walking tour in the ancient town center of Hoi An, visiting the former’s merchant’s houses, the Japanese Bridge and the colorful market.

Day 7

Hoi An – Hue (B)

Drive on the way to the former Imperial capital Hue, with a stopover in the Cham museum of Danang, before climbing over the Pass of Ocean Clouds and dropping down the photogenic fishing village of Lang Co.

Day 8

Hue (B)

Hue_Imperial_Citadel._Property_of_La_Residence._useage_only._Until_Sep_2016_4Start your day at the Imperial Citadel, then cycle through the Old City to Tinh Tam Lake. Continue to former emperor Minh Mang’s tomb located in a tranquil setting of gardens. Later, your journey takes you to Khai Dinh’s Tomb designed in traditional Vietnamese style with a European touch.

Day 9

Hue – Ho Chi Minh City  (B)

Transfer to Hue Airport after breakfast for the short flight to dynamic Ho Chi Minh City, still called Saigon by the locals.  Depart your hotel for a full day Ho Chi Minh City tour. Sites include, Chinatown District, Traditional Medicine Museum and FITO Museum in the morning. In the afternoon, discover Ben Thanh Market before visiting the War Remnants OR the History Museum, the Former Presidential Palace and the colonial city.

Note: History Museum is closed on Mondays. 

Day 10

Ho Chi Minh City – Mekong Delta – Ho Chi Minh City  (B,L)

1992928_Woman_in_boat_with_fruits_and_vegatablesThis morning you will leave bustling Ho Chi Minh for the 2 hour drive to the delta town of Cai Be for a cruise to a floating market. After visiting the market continue to a cottage factory where ‘pop-rice’, rice paper and coconut candies are made. Return to the boat for the cruise to Dong Hoa Hiep Island, admiring the scenery and the daily life of the local villagers along the way. Lunch will be local Mekong specialties. Following your cruise, drive back to Ho Chi Minh City. Overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.

Day 11

Ho Chi Minh City Departure  (B)

At leisure  until your transfer to Tan Son Nhat Airport for your onward flight.

Vaccinations: No compulsory. Please check with your GP.

Visa: Required for Irish Nationals. You can obtain your visa at the embassy or online for a visa on arrival (air travel only). With online application, you will receive an electronic pre-approved visa letter which will allow tourists and business travellers to come to Vietnam and pick up the visa stamp at Vietnam airport, with a stay of up to three months.

Best time to Travel: When it comes to weather, it’s a tough call, as Vietnam’s climate is so diverse. For the best balance, we’d vote for the months of April, May or October.
